It's been over a year since an image has drawn me in as forcefully as the one below.  If you recall, the last image that had me swooning was a pair of tango shoes, though I resisted the impractical urge to buy them. But this time I caved in and bought this lunchbox from laptoplunches.com.  The article I read said that the box was based on traditional Japanese bento boxes.  I knew nothing about bento boxes.  Now I do.  If you follow the link, so will you.

What I like most about this lunchbox is the ability to pack a wet ingredient;  soup, cottage cheese, pudding, yogurt or refried beans along with a sandwich.  Plus there's two side containers for a fruit and a vegetable, even a tiny little container for veggie dip. Tortilla española and empanadas fit nicely.

I've been more inspired when it comes to packing Kipp's lunch in the morning and each day it comes home empty.   It's his responsibility to put his lunchbox by the sink as soon as he comes home from school. Then I dump the containers right into hot, sudsy water.  Although the whole outfit was expensive, no bags, baggies, tupperware or plastic utensils are required.  It's a great, ecologically sound idea.  Also the company sends out a monthly e-newsletter with interesting lunchbox recipes.
