Maureen Dowd doesn't register very highly here in the Midwest.  I know almost nothing about her.  I know I took exception to a column she once wrote (http://blogs.salon.com/0001754/2003/06/18.html), but after that I don't think I ever gave her a second thought.

Now, I see, via Salon.com that she has a new book entitled Are Men Necessary?  I'm not going to debate the title question.  I only bring it up, because according to Rebecca Traister, Dowd's "notes cover. . .a recent cultural embrace of frilly-aproned 1950s femininity."  Among other things.

Has there really been a "cultural embrace"?  I clearly haven't been paying attention.

This subject comes up because of a certain frilly-aproned site I discovered linking to me.  I may have to contrive to get Dowd's book, just to see those notes.  I'll put it on request at the library, though.  I won't plunk down any money.  I'm sure I could buy myself some pretty linens for the price of her book.
