I had this funny picture in my head of a freak-show barker shouting, "Come, See a Real Live Preacher".

In the Name of the Lord

Someone spoke in the name of God in the comments for my post on Mother Teresa. [see below] I know that sounds arrogant, but religious people do it all the time in churches and on TV.

This person did a very nice job of speaking for God, by the way. He/She seemed to know a lot of us here in the Hundred Acre Wood. I was blessed and deeply moved by his/her words.

I want to say thank you to "Yahweh," whoever you are. I hope you'll grace us again sometime.

amen.

Accidental Deletion

On Tuesday I posted a little piece about Mother Teresa which gathered a string of 33 wonderful comments unto itself, including one left by someone named "Yahweh."

This morning I accidentally deleted the whole thing. I was horrified at first because I thought I had lost Yahweh's words forever. I was sick in my heart.

But I found the comments. Thank God. Comments are kept at the salon server and are independant of my blog. I don't know how it works, but it does.

So, here is the original Mother Teresa post from Tuesday:

The Dark Night of Mother Teresa

Someone sent me a link to this article, which captivated me completely. I’ve read it twice now.

The article reveals that Mother Teresa was plagued with doubts about the existence of God. Her faithfulness to her calling in the face of her spiritual sadness and despair only makes her more of a hero to me.

The Dark Night of the Soul is a part of the Christian journey that is not talked about much. It doesn’t market well, and our market-driven church isn’t interested in stories like this.

That’s too bad because we are in desperate need of such heroes, and an entire generation of thoughtful and sensitive people have been cut off from the Christian community because they were told their doubts and their inquiring minds made them unworthy.

I thank God for Mother Teresa. The highest kind of spirituality is a loving commitment to service. I believe that kind of fierce commitment is not diminished in God’s eyes if, weary and exhausted from the hardest kind of love, you find yourself unable to pronounce His name.
