The Real Fellowship of the Ring
I make no secret of the profound influence C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien have had upon my life and faith, particularly Tolkien's idea that the best and deepest human truths, needing to be transmitted across vast ages and into many cultures, can best be told with myth.
Both Lewis and Tolkien wrote about fidelity to commitment and ideals even in the darkest moments of despair. Frodo marching bravely into Mordor against all hope and Puddleglum's stand against the witch in the Chronicles of Narnia spring to mind.
I think these men found powerful ways to express the heroism of faith/faithfulness.
So I want to draw your attention to this article at salon.com. The story of Lewis and Tolkien's friendship is not new, but perhaps it will be new to you.
