Kindred Spirit
I think I've found a kindred spirit - another blog by an anonymous minister. This guy is just beginning the rigorous process of seeking ordination in the Methodist church. He's a deep and creative thinker, and he can write.
It's quite a journey, preparing for the ministry. Mine took the entire 80s. Greek and religious studies in college, four years in seminary, then eighteen months training as a chaplain in a wicked, gut-punch program they call, "CPE."
And then it took the 90s for me to get a sense of who I am and what I believe. I'm only now beginning to understand how those two intersect with this world. I couldn't write until 2002. Twenty years and now I'm writing.
To get a glimpse of that kind of journey from the beginning is rare. It takes an older person with a lot of experience and integrity and passion to keep his eyes wide open from the start.
And if that person can write and does write, then it is a rare find indeed.
Correction is the blog story of such a person. I don't know how old he is, but he lived awhile in the "real world" before he turned to Christianity and then to ministry.
Occasionally I get an email that says, "What you wrote is exactly what I feel." I count that as a high compliment. I feel like that when I read "Correction." I'm just getting started, but I WILL read everything this man has written.
Don't miss his first entry. Or this. Or his latest about his daughter.
You know what I wish? I wish this guy was my friend. I wish he and I could sit together in the cool of an evening, nursing beers and talking long into the night.
