Odds and Ends
Prison
I drove to Gatesville again Saturday to visit my cousin who is in prison there. I got my license updated so they let me in. I guess I won’t say much about the visit itself. I will say that it’s a sad thing visiting someone in prison. Everything is sad. There isn’t anything good happening.
Since I had some negative things to say about the guards before, I’ll be fair and say that this time they were very consistent and even pleasant.

Book Contract
I got the official contract from Eerdmans yesterday. That was exciting. Apparently, this book thing is for real.
My agent went over it in great detail with her legal people. That's why we're just getting it signed. It went back for several rewrites. She's quite pleased with it, so I am too.
Writing
As I mentioned the other day, I have one essay left to do for the book. I’m halfway finished with it. I intend to be finished by Tuesday and then be ready to post some things here.
I could probably blog through the summer just developing the ideas that I've had since November. I have a number of things in various stages of development, including two things that I liked a lot, but they were just too dark for the book. I may start there.
Anonymity
And finally, I have settled the anonymity question. I’m coming out of the closet, so to speak. The book will be “Real Live Preacher” by [my name]. I don’t think I’ll include a picture, and the bio will be brief.
I will continue to write this blog as Real Live Preacher, not using my real name. Yeah, people will know my name. Some may drop it into the comments now and again, but I’ll just ignore that. I’ll be Real Live Preacher here, as I have for the last fourteen months. I think people will get used to that, and things will go on just as they have.
The book will be much the same. My name will be on the cover, but won't be mentioned inside. Real Live Preacher is my writing voice.
Yes, my name and Google will lead you right to my church website. Knock yourself out. I don’t care. What do I have to hide? I think the church website will take a few extra hits, then we’ll all get back to the business at hand. Nothing to see here.
