Want To Know Something Funny?
Want to know something funny? My dad has had a salon blog for some time now. I'm serious.
It's not a well-known blog, in part because he only posts once a week or so. I drop by now and again and leave a comment. I'll tell you how to find his blog in a moment, but first let me tell you about my dad.
His name is Hollie Atkinson. He is a retired pastor living in Marshall, Texas. Where is Marshall? Go east from Dallas until you are about thirty miles from Louisiana. It's a long way from San Antonio, I can tell you that. It takes us about seven hours to get there.
Much of my dad's ministry has been spent working with married couples and families. He and my mom are very involved with ACME (Association of Couples in Marriage Enrichment). Along the way he picked up a Doctor of Ministry degree (D.Min.) in marriage and family from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He does a lot of pastoral counseling with families and has accumulated quite a lot of wisdom and experience over the years.
About ten years ago he started writing a weekly column for the Marshall News Messenger called "Families Matter." He writes about what it means and takes to have a healthy family. I suggested that a blog would be a good way to archive his columns. He agreed, so I helped him launch his blog last November. Most of the people who read his blog are local people from the Marshall area looking for an old column from the newspaper. He has hundreds of columns on his computer, but only the recent ones are on the blog.
Dad is more conservative in his theology and approach to the bible than I am, if that sort of thing means anything to you. I don't really care about that kind of stuff anymore. I meet Christians who are passionate about following in the way of Christ. Some are more biblically conservative than others. If a person is trying to live the Christ life, and that person's life is gentle and filled with love, then I don't really care that much about how he or she interprets II Timothy, know what I mean?
Hollie is a gentle, loving, and sincere man. You would like him if you met him; I can almost guarantee it.
I mentioned my dad in the first part of my story. This piece was about him too.
I'm nuts about him. It probably shows.
Okay, enough of that. Here is his blog. If you drop by, say hello for me.
peace,

rlp
