I had this funny picture in my head of a freak-show barker shouting, "Come, See a Real Live Preacher".

RealLivePreacher.com, the book. Click to find out more...

Little of This, Little of That, Little of the Other Thing

Dear Diary,

There's a lot going on these days.

School
Thank God school started Monday. The girls grieved and I cheered. This has been a long summer. I've spent a lot of time with the children because Jeanene is experiencing a tough season at work. When the last of the three sisters disappeared into her school on Monday, I felt like I was getting my life back.

The Book
Eerdmans has delayed the release of "RealLivePreacher.com" until after Labor Day. The book is done as far as my part is concerned. I understand that delays like this are not unusual. The book signing party at Viva has also been delayed until the first Sunday in October.

Chuck Sigars
Chuck Sigars from "The World According to Chuck" is coming to Texas this weekend, AND is driving down to San Antonio. Chuck and I have become good friends over the last year. He is an experienced writer and has given me a lot of good advice and encouragement. I call him my writing pastor.

We'll have Mexican Food on Saturday night in San Antonio, and he's going to be at my church on Sunday morning. I'm really looking forward to this. I'll tell you how it went.

Server Crash: The Aftermath
When I got back from my family reunion, I told you that my webserver had crashed. It was horrible. We lost so much data. I'm still recovering from that trauma. All my websites are up and running, but we're still installing cgi scripts and other things. I lost a client's email list and had to scan 7000 email addresses from a hard copy backup.

That sucked so profoundly that I don't have the words to describe the tedium. I'm kind of an ADHD guy, so I have a hard time staying focused on boring and repetitive tasks. Scanning text, running OCR software, and proofing the final copy was like smoking a turd in purgatory, as Robin Williams once said.

Next week should be better. Things will almost be back to normal.

ps - I got a lot of emails about the Red Davis Tribute. If you're interested, here is his obituary. He had an impressive life, but they didn't mention the real wonderful stuff.
