Something New to Try
Melanie Teegarden of Althaea Officinalis has been a friend of mine since the early days of Real Live Preacher. We've exchanged many emails over the last year or so. Ours is an unlikely friendship because we travel in different circles and have different beliefs. In the real world we might never cross paths. This is the sort of friendship miracle that makes me appreciate the world of blogging.
Recently Melanie started a new business. She's been making her own soap for some time. Now she sells it online. Curious, I obtained a sample pack and used it for a few weeks. Wow.
Now I'm certainly not an expert on soap products. I generally just grab whatever bar is lying around and use it without asking any questions. My wife buys the soap, and I'm happy to let her. Sometimes she buys blue soap, but mostly white. That's really all I know about it.
But I want to tell you that I enjoyed this soap of Melanie's a lot. It smells good. REAL good. All of her soaps have interesting smells that come from herbs and all kinds of natural things. Melanie's soap is creamy and smooth except for when a caraway seed or something works it way to the surface. Then you get a nice scratch if you rub the soap on your skin. I never thought a scratch from soap would feel good, but it does!
I'm working my way through the sample pack. So far Ginger and Amber is my favorite along with Mister X's Angry Skin Soap.
Anyway, I have come to love Melanie and her family. I read both of her blogs with real interest, looking on from afar as she and Mister X raise their daughters. I hope her soap making business goes well. They're good people!
