Virtual Book Signing
Me and Elizabeth, the woman who runs Viva, at the Virtual Book Signing
The Virtual Signing was a blast! Lyle (Stan from the Elliot stories) setup a web cam and chat room with the help of another techie in our church. I sat in the Ventana art gallery, which is a part of Viva, from 10 am to 2pm. We chatted, goofed off, laughed, and yeah, signed a book or two.
Pepe dropped by, as did John and Mark, friends from church. John has his own blog, by the way. I've never linked to it because it's mostly written for his mom and a few friends, but here it is, in case you're interested. I found a can of Tecate left over from the real signing the day before, so I sat it by the computer. Someone from Australia was logged into the chat room and said I looked like a real Aussie pastor!

The past few days have been wonderful and draining. The book came out, which blew my mind. Then the book signing on Sunday. Many of my friends dropped by to wish me well. They bought so many books that it was embarassing. I was also stunned to find that Don and Val, blogging friends, sent a beautiful flower arrangement all the way from Washington. Don and Val are people who have become friends though we have never met. Ain't blogging great?
To top it off, Larry, my old friend from seminary days, flew in to be with me. Years ago he came to Texas from Georgia when I was ordained. He said this was a kind of writer's ordination and he wanted to be there with me.
By the time I went to bed on Sunday, I was numb.
And then today. Thank you to all who dropped into the chat room to say hello. It was great to see names pop onto the screen and recognize them from the comments and emails. We really did have a blast. At one point the public relations person from Eerdmans logged on and said hello.
Geodog posted some screen capture shots here. Tim Samoff posted some others here. Of course, Michael Main wouldn't pass up a chance like this. He's got some stuff on his site as well.
Jeanene and I are leaving town for two nights. She won a $500 gift certificate for a condominuim in Port Aransas. My parents are here to watch the three sisters. I'm looking forward to a little time where I am nothing more or less than her husband.
Now that the book is done and the signings are over, I wonder if I'll settle down again? I've been pretty stressed since the Spring. I hope so. I look forward to doing some pretty serious writing when I return.
see ya soon,
rlp
