Little of This Little of That
I have a new essay completed for The Christian Century. It should be online on Monday or Tuesday. A Foy Davis story is in the works, continuing the saga of our intrepid and quirky ex-minister who is finding out a lot about himself in his post-church days. Maybe next week sometime.
Yesterday I had to go downtown to meet with one of my web clients. I decided to walk over the the Alamo to catch Kinky Friedman announcing his candidacy for governor of Texas. Fascinating. There were junior Kinksters everywhere. Guys in black hats with waxed mustaches, goatees, and big cigars. Kinky will make it interesting. His platform involves outlawing the declawing of cats and legalizing casino gambling, among other things.
Kinky does represent something wild and untamed in Texas. That's obviously had a lot to do with his fame. His motto is, "Kinky Friedman. Why the hell not?"
Update on Susan and the Cookie Man
I see Susan a couple of times a week at the store. I've only seen the Cookie Man once since I offered to do their wedding. Susan is very friendly as always, but she has said nothing about the wedding. This leads me to believe that they're not interested. And who could blame them, really? It's rather strange to have a minister pop into your store and offer to officiate at your wedding.
It was one of those moments when I listened to the Spirit and followed my heart. The ball is in their court. It looks like they will make their own arrangements. Still, things like this often bring unexpected results. If anything else happens, I'll let you know.
