Eureka!
I have found my writing place.
Where I write is very important to me. I can't write at home, at least not in the early stages. Too many distractions. I really can't write in public places or places where there are unpredictable noises. Steady noise is okay.
It's the focus that is hard to control. Calling focus out of your subconscious is like practicing magic. Who knows how it happens but it must happen. The focus I find when I'm writing is the addictive thing.
So I found my place. I've been scouting around for a long time. Our church built a second building a couple of years ago. It looks like a cottage in the woods. It has a big porch, stone walls, and a green metal roof. Upstairs is the room where I teach my bible study on Sunday mornings.
I put a table against the window for my notebook computer and put a printer next to it. It's quiet. There is no phone, not that it matters since our church phone is broken and no one seems to be getting around to fixing it and that's one of the things I love about our church.
But like I said, there's no phone and a window looking out into the trees, and even a little balcony that I can stand on when I need to read things out loud or just want a quick change of scenery and a place to think.
Perfect. That's my writing place. For now. I'll post some pictures. Maybe.

ps - Christian Century is considering a piece that I finished yesterday. If they take it, it will be online quickly. If not, I'll post it here tomorrow.
