Real Life Adventures
I’ve had a surprising number of real life encounters with friends from the blogging world recently. Last Sunday several people who read Real Live Preacher showed up at our church to worship and say hello. A pastor and his wife from Atlanta came, along with a woman and her son. It always feels a little strange when someone asks, "Are you Real Live Preacher?"
For some reason I always get a little tongue-tied. "Um, yeah...sort of."
I got an email from Pascale of "both2and...beyond binary." She's going to be in Austin this summer, and we're going to meet for Mexican food. That will be VERY cool. I've admired her writing for a long time. She really opens her heart on her blog.
And today brought a special treat. Rachel Barenblat, aka "The Velveteen Rabbi," was in town. She's from San Antonio and was in town to visit her family. We met at Viva Books for an hour or so of wonderful conversation. Rachel is a beautiful writer. And how cool is the name of her blog?
Viva has a copy of one of the early facsimiles of the Saint John's Bible. (Matthew thru Acts) We looked at it together. Being Jewish, Rachel definitely understands my delight in the beauty of this handwritten, sacred text. We oo'd and ah'd over it together.
Sometimes people ask why I started a blog or what I like about blogging. Having an excuse to write is very cool. Having others read your work and respond is an amazing experience. But meeting people and making friends from all over the world is absolutely the best part of all.
