Say Anything -
Cameron Crowe is a genius. Sure it’s about teenagers, but it’s also
about the rest of us.
Wings of Desire - the
scene with the people on the bus, who are in despair, and don't know the
angels are sitting next to them. They don't recover from their despair,
but the do feel just a tiny bit better, they have the courage to go on.
And Columbo, as the fallen angel, who sketches. Love it.

Being John Malkovich
Brazil - Very
beautiful and funny and sad at the same time... It's one of those films
I can watch endlessly, waiting for the epiphany that will make it all
make perfect sense, then I realize that the sense of confusion and
disorientation has been woven in to the story intentionally. DO NOT get
the edit version that loses an hour and has a terrible ending.
Raising Arizona -
probably my all time favorite 'quirky' movie. The supermarket scene with
the Pampers has me laughing to the point of tears every time
Spirited Away – An
absolute treasure. The animation is gorgeous, and I totally love the
idea of the Bathhouse of the Spirits.

The Adventures of
Baron Munchausen - Made by Terry Gilliam, one of the members of Monty
Python. It's something your kids will no doubt enjoy too. Classic
adventure fantasy set in a mythological France during the 1700s. Robin
Williams plays the moon god in this.
Amelie
Best in show
The fisher king
Ghostworld -- GREAT
FILM!
High fidelity
Hudson Hawk - There
are apparently two types of people in this world; those who adored
"Hudson Hawk", and those who hated it. I loooooove that movie.
Pi - This one's
great. It's all about the theory that there's a mathematical equation
that can unlock the order of the very fabric of reality. If you liked
Waking Life, you'll probably love this one.
O Brother Where Art
Thou
Seven Samuri - if you
haven't seen this great movie, its worth it. There is a man in there
that has a facial expression that every time I see makes me laugh. Not
because its funny in itself. But if you took a thousand people and lined
em up, and told them something horrible was about to happen to them,
this guy would win hands down.
