Worlds Colliding

I guess it was bound to happen. Someone from my church found Real Live Preacher.

It was "Stan" from the Elliot stories, and it didn’t take him long to figure it out.

He called me yesterday and said, “I found a website, and I’m pretty sure it’s you.”

After I admitted I was indeed the writer behind Real Live Preacher, he said, “I’m Stan, right?”

The names in those stories have been changed, but it was pretty obvious. I was worried that he might be uncomfortable about having their story told like this, but he was cool with it. Still, it must have been a shock to be reading a blog and suddenly find yourself.

Stan, I wonder when you realized it. I wonder when you knew that what you were reading had to be more than coincidence.

Stan is about the best person in the church to find RLP. He and I have been friends for about 12 years. Sometimes he calls me “Rabbi”. Sometimes he calls me other things.

Anyway, he agreed to keep my secret, but he gets to tell “Carol”.

Thanks Stan! Let's do lunch next week, and I'm buying! I owe you one, and I promise I'll pay up this time, not like that seafood thing.

Stan knows the real me, the man who is behind these words. Now he also knows the blog me. It feels like two worlds colliding, my flesh world and my virtual world passing through the same space.
