I had this funny picture in my head of a freak-show barker shouting, "Come, See a Real Live Preacher".

Soft Stories From a Small Church

I've decided to expand some of the stories I hinted at when I wrote "All the Right Questions." I got some nice emails asking about the ring of stones at the back of the property and Old Man Cedar. I'm going to write seven, I think. Seven soft stories from a small church.

The first will be "Old Man Cedar." I'm close to finishing that one. I'd like to write four stories about the children I mentioned. I'll need to get permission for those because I want so badly to use their real names. I'm not exactly sure why. I guess because I know the real children, and I think their names are perfect.

Anyway, assuming I get permission, "Old Man Cedar" will be followed by:

Madeline's Hair
Picking Up Jacob
The Ring of Stones
Savannah's Smile
Main's Folly
Chloe

I probably won't write them in that order, and I may write other things while I'm working on this. I like to write what about the things that feel urgent to me.

These will be quirky stories of love and community. Real stories. Stories about the soft side of church.
