Open Source
Some of you "old timers" might remember that in August of 2003, I was interviewed by Christopher Lydon. That interview is still online in his archives. It's most memorable to me because for some unkown reason, I chose to end the thing by saying, "Peace, brother." I was embarrassed immediately and even more so when I heard it later. To say that it sounded stupid is an understatement. I sounded like the nervous, punch-drunk rookie that I was and still am.
Anyway, Christopher Lydon has a new NPR radio show that is attempting to combine radio and the internet in some creative and new ways. Other shows have blogs, but Lydon posts his topics ahead of time on the show's blog and invites comments, allowing the blog to shape the show.
Open Source premiered May 30th. It is only on four public radio stations so far, but it can be heard over the internet. THE BIG NEWS: I've been invited to participate in a live discussion about how people talk about God online. The show airs Wednesday June 1st, You can participate in several ways:
1. You can listen to the show on Wednesday night via a live stream on the internet. CLICK HERE to listen at 7pm, EST on Wednesday:
2. You can visit the Open Source blog where they are inviting input from Real Live Preacher readers. If you want to leave a comment about why you visit Real Live Preacher's blog, that would be helpful to them. Your comment might get read on the air. CLICK HERE TO LEAVE A COMMENT.
3. You can try to call the show during the broadcast and join in the discussion. I think we all know that it's very hard to get an open line for a radio show, but who knows? Maybe you'll get through. The phone number is on the Open Source website.
Whether you just listen or decide to participate, it should be fun. Jeff Sharlet of "The Revealer" will also be on the show. There may be others, but at this point I only know of Jeff and me.
I promise to end with a simple "goodbye" this time!
And let me not say something stupid this time!
