Going to a party tonight, so not time for much today. Nothing majorly annoying happened today (at least not newsworthily).
About Trent Lott: He apologizes, and says he had no idea people were going to take it like that. If that were the case, why did he not realize on Thursday (the date of the bash) that very few people were laughing with him, and most people seemed embarrassed (at least according to the audiotape on NPR)? If that were the case, then why wait until Monday evening to apologize - why not apologize on Friday, profusely, instead of saying "it was a lighthearted occasion"? Just as I thought.
What I'm reading:
- The Bondwoman's Narrative. Finally able to get this from the library. In the middle of the introduction - it's 65 freaking pages long! I thought about skipping ahead to the actual story, but then there's this post-introduction introduction, where the editor blogs about how he wonders if he did well by the manuscript and if the introduction will help explain it. So I went back again.
- Just finished book 3 of Patricia Cornwell's series with Kay Scarpetta, Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond Virginia. Suspended the series in order to read the above.
What I'm still waiting for:
- Cornwell's new analysis/conclusion book about Jack the Ripper.
- Alice Sebold's The Lovely Bones
And, I'm in first place year's ranking of the football pool. It won't last - I'm only up by 5 points, and although there's only 3 weeks left, I gained 18 points this week alone. So you see where I'm coming from. I have to celebrate now.
