Wherein I curse madly on all sorts of topics, and probably talk about my cats, too, at some point.

The latest on Trent Lott is here.  I've gotta go find and read the text of his comments again, based on what Jesse Helms had to say.  "He may have chose a word that was too vulnerable to his critics. And they leap on it like a puppy dog on a biscuit." Exactly what "word" is he referring to?  Was there one paticular word in Lott's tribute that is setting everyone off?  I didn't pick up on any one particular word - I picked up on the sentiment behind the words.  Gotta love that ol' country boy phrasing, though I would've expected him to say something about a tick on a hound dog.

I've also heard that Lott said pretty much this exact same thing 20 years ago about Thurmond (I forget what for).  I wish I could go back to the newspapers of those days and see what they had to say about it then.  Is Lott revealing that he still has the same speechwriter that he had back then?  Maybe he should hire a new one.....

Meanwhile, in other news, Cracker Barrel has voted to add sexual orientation to their non-discrimination policy.  Will ya just look at that!  I started boycotting them years ago when I first heard about their discriminatory policies, but it's been so long, that I remembered it as being a racial thing!  So, in October when I heard that you could rent books-on-tape from their stores and then return them at any Cracker Barrel store anywhere (for a $3.00 rental fee), I was torn.  I was on a business trip, so I couldn't just get something from the library, and I didn't want to buy something and have to carry it back with me on the plane.  I decided to stop in, see if I saw any "people of color" working there, and if not, I'd just leave.  But, the hostess and the manager (who was helping another customer) were black, so I rented my book and went on my way.  Even told some friends/acquaintances that they seem to have corrected their policies.  Boy, is my face red right about now!  But I'm glad I'm finding out through good news, instead of bad!

So, I'm sure some people reading this will question my use of the word "black" in the paragraph above.  Well, I thought about it once - what do they call black people in Sweden?  African-Swedes?  How about Germany?  Afro-Saxons?  I doubt it.  I hope I don't get any hate mail over it.  And I put "people of color" in quotes only because I don't really talk like that - it doesn't just roll off my tongue.

Now, if we could only bring Fred Phelps around...  You know, the moron that runs the "god hates fags" website, and was so crass, not to mention downright nasty, skeevy, heinous as to protest at the funerals of people murdered because of their sexual orientation.  Namely, Matthew Shepherd and Gwen Araujo.  In case my opinion of him isn't real clear yet, he's an ass.
