All About Anti-war
In the list of anti-war slogans posted at My So-Called Lesbian Life, I found this gem. I absolutely love it!
"... one nation, under surveillance..."
The T-shirt flap
If you haven't heard by now, there's been a big flap today about some peace-T-shirt-wearing mall patrons arrested for wearing these shirts. Via a roundabout method*, I found out that The Smoking Gun has the police reports. Apparently these two men were not just wearing the shirts. They were also allegedly walking around in front of a Macy's store, chanting the slogans and stopping people to tell them to "give peace a chance", etc. And for that, I think that mall security folk are within their rights to ask them to stop.
However, the story doesn't stop there. The mall security guard's report says that they told these two to remove the shirts, and they would be welcome to continue shopping as long as they did not "cause any more gatherings". So now we've come full circle. The only reason for being kicked out of the mall should be because of the gatherings, and not because of the T-shirts. Removing the T-shirts never should have been part of the deal.
Of course we'll never know what would have happened, because one of the men did remove the T-shirt, and the other seems to have gotten belligerent. He said he was going to "continue shopping", so it could have been all about the T-shirt - it's hard to say.
So there you have it. I think I'll make myself a "Peace" T-shirt and go to the mall tomorrow....
