More random thoughts
Now that the oil deposits in Afghanistan have been determined to be three times larger than previously suspected, I wonder how long it will be before we send a few more troops over that way (to help out the march to democracy, of course)?
I was recently back in my home town, and I tried to access my bloglines
account. No dice. The Symantec filter said something about the
use of prohibited words, or "too many usages" of restricted
words. Okay, fine. I figured I'd just link to my site
directly, in order to get to my blogroll. That didn't work,
either. This time it gave as the reason "Sex Ed/Advanced".
I wonder what that means - sex education combined with advanced
topics? Or more advanced sex ed than anyone should have access
to? I don't remember going into that many details....
I'm so sick of lawmakers being "strict originalists" about the
Constitution, and how they think this country should reflect only
exactly what the Founding Fathers intended - meaning their opinion of
what the Founding Fathers intended. My opinion is, the Founding
Fathers meant for the people of this country to decide how we want to
be governed. In their world, only certain people were allowed to
have guns. And each gun had to be loaded by hand after it was
fired once. Hence, the 2nd Amendment, to state that everyone
should be able to have guns. But we live in a world where a man
with a semi-automatic weapon can kill seven innocent people and wound
seven others, in a church, after buying the gun at a flea market.
And these are the same people that keep saying that "9/11 changed
everything". Well, you know what also "changed everything"?
Automatic and semi-automatic weapons in the hands of criminals.
We own this government, and we have the right to decide how we want to
be ruled. And that's what those 225+ year old people wanted for
us, too.
I can't find the link now, but I'm sure it was at BroadSheet at Salon.
It was about how one plan to fight the South Dakota law is not to
fight it. As in, not to acknowledge its existence. Similar to the
plan of not allowing creationism in science classes so as not to
elevate it to equal footing with evolution as a "hypothesis" of the
origins of life on earth. This will work just fine, until some Planned
Parenthood doctor gets locked up for performing an abortion. And you
know that's going to happen sooner or later, and probably sooner. So
sure, we can decide not to challenge the law before it is used, but
we're most certainly going to have to challenge it after.
But I'll end things on a good note: Cecilia Fire Thunder,
the first female tribal leader of the Oglala Sioux in South Dakota has
said she will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on the grounds of the reservation. Read the comments (all of them) to the post if you want information on where to send a donation. I had planned to boycott the state of South Dakota,
but I think now that means the whole state except for the
reservation. I may make that my next vacation destination
spot.
Be well, and keep thinking!
