"We should model ourselves after Texas"

 debate transcript

9:12:05 PM

Josh Marshall has the scoop--with the GOP's fingerprints all over it--right here.

Guess Chris Whittle and his sham Edison schools are finding out that it ain't so easy to run a school system. Lucky them, the GOP will throw hard earned pension dollars at them to bail them out... Gee, and they did the same for Enron too... what a coincidence

How? They revealed the identity of a CIA agent (Valerie Plame).

Why? They decided to “out” the CIA asset out of a childish fit of political pique.

They wanted “payback” because the agent’s husband, former US ambassador Joseph Wilson, exposed the falsity of the Niger uranium story, which was designed to help mislead the nation into the Iraq war.

So in consequence the CIA has requested the justice dept investigate White House aides for criminal wrongdoing. Have you heard about this from your network news? IF not, why not?

Read all about it here

Here’s the story that publicized the request for investigation.

And here’s the latest from the Washington Post.

How could they do this—endanger national security in order to pursue a partisan, indeed inherently dishonest, agenda—you ask?

There is a reason they are called the Mayberry Machiavellis.

Policy means nothing to them. “Politics” – at least the backstabbing, smearing and greed-grasping that passes for politics in their small minds – means everything.

Hmmm… makes the media frenzy over the falsely inflated “travelgate” seem as trivial as it always was. Wonder what kind of media scrutiny will accompany this true breach of the public trust?

8:13:08 PM

Heard some more classic Gore-ing from GOP tool Mara Liasson on NPR yesterday: she reported as truth the GOP CO gov's claim that "Clark would be a member of GOP if Rove had returned his calls" and then accused Clark of lying or flip-flopping for disputing the accuracy of the GOP smear.

Classic Gore-ing: misrepresent or misquote, then accuse the candidate of lying and fabrication when he (or she) tries to correct media mistakes

Mara also compared Howard Dean to George McGovern -- yup, "fair and balanced."

Colin Powell caught on video tape stating: "He (Saddam Hussein) has not developed any significant capability with respect to weapons of mass destruction. He is unable to project conventional power against his neighbours."

Not to be outdone, two months later Condeleeza Rice had this to say: "We are able to keep his arms from him. His military forces have not been rebuilt."

Sounds like some folks should be losing their jobs over this.

side note: I just don't get people who say "I don't like the Bushies but I trust Colin Powell." Colin Powel is one of the most ambitious, elbows-first members of the whole Bush cabal. It just so happens that he doesn't look like a dried up, overweight old fart like so many of the rest of them, but don't kid yourself, their policies ARE his policies. No one held a gun to his head and said "lie, endorse falsehoods to lead this nation into a spelndid little war." He's proven that he has little or no regard for the truth or for the lives of those in the military, particularly if such lies involve advancing his career.
