ODE TO A FORMER EMPLOYER
She was a cubic zirconia
in the rough
a product of Catholic girls’ school
and a carefully constructed
fortress of self-righteousness
a white queen who
furiously moved pawns
around her crowded square
never imagining the
greater chessboard beyond
didn’t you know
myopic maiden
you can’t see ahead
with your eyes fixed
on a mirror
I once knew a woman
who claimed
her farts didn’t smell
