I love my job, but there are always greener pastures.  I'd quit my editorial duties in a New York minute if there was some way I could make a living just reading and commenting on the blogs here at Salon.  There is an incredible richness and diversity here that demands more time than I have to give.  Only rarely do I have the time to explore blogs that are not already on my must read list.  As you can see by the links to the left, that list is already quite extensive.

This weekend, I am making good on a promise to widen my perspective.  I have been looking into blogs old and new that have, for various reasons, been outside my event horizon.  Here are some of the treasures I have found without even doing half the reading I hope to do.  In no way do I wish to set myself up as some arbiter of what is good and bad in the blogosphere.  I just want to spread the word about some blogs that I find worthwhile.  It is a purely subjective process.

John H. Farr at FarrFeed has been around far longer than I have, judging from his blog number.  Why I haven't clued into his work sooner is one of those mysteries of the universe that may never be answered.  In a perfect world, he should have discovered me rather than the other way around.  John is a very mature and reflective writer who has a nicely designed blog.  He also posts evocative photos of the southwestern environment that are a pleasure to behold.

Au Courant is a very well-named blog wherein Matt Metzger serves up righteous anger on wry.  He is also, by my anal-retentive standards, an excellent writer.

One of the most beautifully designed blogs that I have discovered is Fear This Factor.  Shane Hensinger is another fine writer with wide ranging interests that should appeal to almost everyone.

Doublethink honors its Orwellian inspiration by documenting just how far we have come since 1984.  The anonymous author is a dedicated Bush burner who practices very well-researched gonzo journalism.  The links this blogger has posted are encyclopedic and I can forgive a tendency to use too many dashes and three dot punctuation.

My favorite discovery is the World's Coolest Uncle.  The title is dead accurate.  This is chicken soup for the twisted.  Scott Jorgensen posts a daily litany of succinct wit and wisdom that is manna to those who love to collect aphorisms.  Uncle Scott is not afraid to be politically incorrect and that is a quality to be treasured.

Time permitting, I will continue to boldly go.  Stay tuned for more blogrolling.
