Home, Sweet Home

I cannot begin to tell you just how long a one-hour plane ride can be...it's a relative thing, one you have to experience in your own frame of reference.  But it's a truth that the perceived length of time it takes to get from Point A to Point B is directly proportional to the intenisty of your desire to be at Point B.  Actual clock time doesn't count here.  So what if the scheduled flying time is 53 minutes?  So what if the plane was on time?  I wanted to be home, so every minute lasted at least an hour.  Oh well.

The bottom line?  I'm finally home after three weeks of intense class work, the last of it in the long course of study to attain my D.Min.  Now all that remains is the thesis (The Small, Rural Church: Enforced Chaplaincy or Joyful Mission? Overcoming the Inhibitors to Growth), which will be written over the course of the next six months if it kills me.  I want this puppy finished!

There were some high points to the trip, however.  Made it to Wrigley Field the first week to see Sammy Sosa come out of exile and slumpdom by drilling two homers in front of a sold-out crowd. The second one went over the top of the scoreboard and hasn't landed yet.  520 feet they said.  I believe it...but have no idea how they measured it...  Cork or no cork, that guy is an artiste!

My wife came out to celebrate our First Anniversary midway through the second week, and we shacked up at the Palmer House Hilton in downtown Chicago for a couple of days.  She bought out Marshall Fields, we had some great meals and celebrated surviving a year together and looked forward to many more.  The third week was spent looking forward to getting home.  And here I am...

I have missed reading you all and I have a lot of catching up to do...I notice that I haven't slipped too far down on the boards, so thanks for keeping the hit count up while I was gone...not that I'm counting or anything.  I'm also looking forward to Melanie's visit in August...see you then!

Time to get off to the office and see what's happened there in my absence...the church mice always seem to get friskier while I'm away...their mischief is always a treat to come home to...(uh huh)...back writing very soon...

Later,

Bo
