Elk Night!!!

I have been waiting for this particular Friday all summer.  It's Elk Night again!!!  And Opening Night to boot!!

Tonight has nothing to do with the B.P.O.E.  I'm not much of a joiner, anyway.  Elk Night got its name from...well, you really don't want to know.  Even if you did, it's too raunchy even for me to explain.  And besides, being a secret society, I'd have to kill you if I told you.  But tonite is Elk Night!!!

Elk Night is a chance for renewal, comaraderie, food, drink, and general merriment for Father Bojangles and his Merry Minions.  Five years ago, I decided that the men of my congregations needed a spiritual outlet.  Men don't do spiritual outlets well, so it had to be couched in terms men could understand.  So I created Elk Night.  We get together for Poker, Cigars, Scotch,Beer, Submarine Sandwiches, and whatever concoction any of the guys decide to whomp up and bring with them.  We do it monthly through the Fall and Winter and Early Spring.  It is a raunchy, no-holds-barred kind of night with Classic Rock blaring from the stereo and nickles, dimes, and quarters flying on the table amidst the cards.  We stay out really, really late (midnight....ooooooh) and nobody is allowed to call their wives...and we have a great time.

Our specially designed poker table was built by one of our members, a master craftsman when it comes to building furniture.  It has a place for every member, his beer bottle (or glass), an ashtray holder (for the cigar butts), and a place for loose change.  Members include broadcasters, other clergy, state police, feed store owners, bankers, and county executives.  One of our members has just returned from a tour in Iraq and we will be glad to see him home safe tonite.

So, anyway, I'm off to order the sandwiches, buy some fresh cigars, and pick out the Single Malt for the evening.  I can feel the Renewal welling up already!!!  Have a great weekend, folks.  At sunset tonight, we start workin' on it.
