Aftermath It dawns on me as I write this that "Aftermath" is the title of a movie about the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust. That I am using it as the title for a short piece written in the wake of Elk Night is in no way coincidental. With that event on Friday, a big wedding on Saturday, three services on Sunday and a visit to check out a new Spiritual Director yesterday, I am in recovery today. Elk Night was all it was supposed to be and more. For the first time in a long time everbody's schedule, with one exception, worked out and we were all in one place together. It was a great night. Lots of food, scotch, beer and raunchiness. The laughing was the best. We came away tired, some of us fleeced (myself included), but none the worse for wear. We have begun the Elk Season with gusto and the next is not far away. Today I am working on the church newsletter which MUST go out by tomorrow. Next Sunday we are presenting a St. Francis Day Pet Blessing at two of the services and downtown. All with a special liturgy. As with anything NEW, it has some of the older members of the congregation nervous, but I have been pushing this for the past two months so I hope it won't be too traumatic for them. Besides, we are offering a Pet Free service at 8, so they have an option. But for many of them, even the slightest change is traumatic and I'm sure there will be a little fall out. Oh well. God keep me from getting that way when I am old enough to wear purple!! I am working on some stuff to post here, but at the moment it's taking a back seat to newsletter and Puppy Church liturgies.
