From Russia with Pain In a few short hours I will be going to my first class of "Systema" a Russian martial art that dates back to the 10'th century Cossacks. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, this art has slowly spread and now has several schools in my area. What draws me to Systema is the focus on real world application, without all the unnecessary baggage of ritual and tradition of other more recognized martial arts. From all accounts, it is simple to learn, demanding, and very effective. I'm excited (and a bit nervous) Updates when (and if) I return.
