i found this site, www.celebatheists.com linked to a message board i frequent.  looking thru the names, i clicked on george carlin.  man, i just love this guy, always have.  i remember sneaking to watch his stuff on cable as a kid, i didn't want my parents to know, they wouldn't have approved. 

this little bit from his HBO special in 1999 really strikes a cord with me:

But I want you to know something, this is sincere, I want you to know, when it comes to believing in God, I really tried. I really, really tried. I tried to believe that there is a God, who created each of us in His own image and likeness, loves us very much, and keeps a close eye on things. pretty much sums up my path to the realization that there is no god.  i tried but have failed to be convinced.
