less than a month to go...
'til the wedding! yay! everything's coming together smoothly. i'll get the invites out monday (yes, i know a little late but well, my friends/family know me, that's how i operate!) my wonderful mom is doing all the work on the invites. my friend sassy is getting the reception/party organized. all greg and i need to do is get our rings and the marriage license. i suppose i should look for a nice dress to wear as well. i think this may very well be the easiest, cheapest and hopefully the most fun wedding EVER! hahahahahaha

i'm such a wuss!
so this new job has me on my feet all day, running around, carrying heavy tubs, moving tables....i never realized how out of shape i was! and i've started riding my bike to/from work everyday which i love, but on my way home i feel like i'm going to collapse (climbing the million stairs to my top floor apt with bike in hand doesn't help!) working in an irish pub is a whole lotta fun though! i'm so glad i'm no longer sitting behind a desk all day long :)

self loathing is such a great thing ;) good thing it only rears its ugly head when shit really hits the fan. in actuality, things -are- pretty damn good. i'm in love and getting married, i'm moving out of MN in the fall and i've got some of the greatest friends in the world. losing my job hurts of course but something will come along and i'll be able to continue with my plans for the move. the wedding plans, well, those will be tweaked now, i'll need a new budget and the invites might suffer (getting more white-trashy every minute, how can we make these things cheaper? xerox, handwritten, plain white paper and envelopes?)
such is life.

make it stop!
i've always held a deep disgust towards the suburbs. it's the cookie-cutter sameness that turns my tummy. and i've always had a love affair towards the city. the hustle and bustle, the freaks and weirdos, the contrast between shiny and bright skyscrapers and the seedy and grimy underbelly strikes a deep chord in me. i feel comfortable surrounded by chaos.
so today when i read this article in the New York Times, Shaping Cultural Tastes at Big Retail Chains, i can't help but feel vindicated in my disgust for all things suburban. and yet, i feel a sadness too. or maybe it's pity, poor fools blindly just accepting what's presented to them. a whitewashed reality. but then i feel ashamed, we all make choices and who am i to say that the choices i make would appeal to all? thankfully, i hang out and meet enough weirdos (i mean this in a good way!) and discontented folks to know that not all is lost. and besides, i like feeling different from the masses. i don't want them in my club.
no matter how hard wal-mart and others try to shape culture to its liking, controversial ideas, books, movies, and music will still be out there and available to the public. and thank god for that!

about time!
well, looks like Minnesota will finally(!) extend bar time from 1am to 2am. Liquor stores will still close at 8pm Monday thru Friday, that part of the bill was rejected. which is fine, i mean, you just get used to having to purchase your booze before 8 during the week ya know? but the bar time extension, that will be nice. 1am is just too damn early! now let's just hope nothing happens before it's actually passed...

i've got two movies for you. The first one is called The Dancing Outlaw which can be ordered from here but before anyone whips out their credit card, you may want to see what this page has to say about Jesco and royalties. It -is- a great documentary and I hope Jesco is able to resolve the royalties issue.
my second recommendation is American Movie. Funny and tragic, a great look into one guy's struggle to live the american dream.

On Wednesday, Townshend said he was wrong to access the Web site, but said police accepted he had no "nefarious purpose" in doing so.
"As I made clear at the outset, I accessed the site because of my concerns at the shocking material readily available on the Internet to children as well as adults, and as part of my research toward the campaign I had been putting together since 1995 to counter damage done by all kinds of pornography on the Internet, but especially any involving child abuse," he said in a statement.

this is the first time i've seen the amber alert in action. i'm home sick watching daytime tv and i notice, scrolling at the bottom of my tv, an amber alert.
Authorities issued an Amber Alert this morning, after an 11-year-old girl was reported missing from her St. Cloud home.
Cindy Jeanette Bruno is described as 5 feet tall, 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She may be with a 20-year-old man, police said. The two were believed to be traveling in a green 1992 Ford Aerostar van with Minnesota license CYY474.
Officials said the pair may be headed for Utah or South Carolina.

my roomie's addicted to Anarchy Online. it looks pretty damn cool. and he plays it all the time! so it must be good at sucking you into it's world. not for me though, i'm too easily addicted/obessive about things so i'll leave this game alone. roomie's been trying to get my fiance to sign up but his resistance is holding steady.
my favorite game is tetris. yes i know, old school but i love it. and i'll play any other tetris style game that i can find out there.
