some more gay marriage news

NM weddings halted

The county clerk in Sandoval County, N.M., began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples Friday morning, but by mid-afternoon -- after 67 couples signed up the licenses -- the state attorney general's office declared the licenses invalid and activity at the clerk's office came to a halt.

SF marriage reprieve

Quidachay was the second judge this week to rule against two conservative groups seeking to halt the steady stream of same-sex couples tying the knot and to invalidate more than 3,000 licenses issued since last week. On Tuesday, Judge James Warren refused to issue a stay to stop the marriage procession.

i can't help but be excited over this! i laughed out loud when i saw two guys on foxnews discussing SF and gay marriage refer to mayor newsom as a renegade.

neat idea

so i got this email from a friend of mine back in mpls today. inside is this link: http://www.livejournal.com/community/gay_marriage/53034.html

i think it's a neat idea! a way to convey support and to send a message that many of us are tired of the debate over marriage. in the eyes of the government, marriage should only be a contract binding two people to care for each other. it has nothing to do with religious beliefs. each of us brings into a marriage our own beliefs about what -being married- means. some people's religions tell them that a marriage is between a man and woman. and that's fine, for them, for their lives. but why do their religious beliefs override my beliefs?

so anyway, back to the link. pass it on if yer so inclined!

a rock n roll love story

a year ago today, matt, a guy i worked with, invited me to see his band play at gastoff's. i told him i'd love to come to the show but i didn't have a way to get to there. later in the day he comes over to my desk to tell me he found me a ride with some of his buddies. i wasn't really in the mood to go out that night. i was unshowered and it was the middle of the week and i still had 3 more days of work 'til i could really sleep. but as i was getting stoned with my roomie that evening i decided to go. what did i have to lose besides money spent on beer? nothing! so off i went. i didn't know anyone there except for matt. and he had a bunch of friends to socalize with at the bar so once i said my hellos to him i looked around for a place to park myself (after i'd gotten a beer of course.) there, at a table next to the stage, i saw two guys sitting together. i walked over and introduced myself as i plopped down.

"hi i'm harmony and i don't know anyone here and you two seem like nice guys so i'm going to sit with you" smile

they smiled back and introduced themselves. pete and greg. pete played drums and greg played bass. we got to talking and laughing and talking and more laughing. greg and i seemed to have hit it off! soon, it was time for the band to play. the music was okay, but greg, greg stole the show, in my eyes anyway. every break between songs he was on the mike saying the most hilarious self deprecating shit. he was cajoling the crowd and making fun of himself and the rest of the band and i laughed my ass off. after the show, i went to get another beer and starting flirting with some random guy up at the bar. then my ride was leaving. but i didn't want to leave yet! i was having too much fun and wanted to drink more beer and hang out. so matt tells me he can find me another way home and then he mentions his bass player has a crush on me (yes i realize that sounds so highschool but we were all wasted and it set my heart aflutter!) i ditched the boy i was flirting with at the bar and went and sat down by myself. and shortly thereafter, greg joined me. more talking and a lot more flirting and of course more laughter ensued until it was bar time. i caught a ride back to greg and pete's place with them and greg and i kissed in the front seat of pete's car with the apples in stereo blasting in our ears the whole way home (yes, once again, very highschool of us! but oh so delicous and fun.) once we got to their house, my ride home, matt, was leaving. but i didn't want to leave yet. so greg and i talked and we decided i was staying there. yay! but i was worried because i actually wanted to hang out with greg again and wanted him to call me and if i stayed over, he'd have no reason to call me the next day. but he assured me that he'd call and i believed him. it was a great night. a night that changed my life forever. and true to his word, greg did call me the next day. i was one hungover happy chick when i got that call! we made a date to get together friday and we've been together ever since.

and that my friends, is a rock n roll love story.

i went to body manipulations for the labret piercing on a recommendation from a customer at work. she said it's the best place in SF for piercings. the place was clean and the staff were very professional. i will definitely go back there for any other piercings i may get in the future. in about two months i will be switching out the barbell with a hoop but barbells heal better so for now i'm stuck (hahah!) with the barbell. i think it looks good if i say so myself. and i love my shiny new blonde hair! greg hasn't seen any of this yet. i hope he likes it!

nothing much new going on in my life. just working and living. the job is going well. i'm liking it more and more. i've been there two months now, one more month to go and i'll get a raise. yaaah!

yesterday we received tenacious d's masterworks dvd in the mail. god i love those two. they are hilarious. i had the pleasure of seeing them twice in mpls. first time at first ave. i was front row and the show was just amazing. second time i saw them was at the state theater. a good show but not as amazing as first ave since i was seated in like row 30 or something. the dvd has all their HBO episodes, which is how i discovered the d way back in the 90's. my ex boyfriend and i taped some of the episodes and we'd show them to any of our friends who had never heard of the d. when my ex and i broke up, he kept the tape of the episodes and man i have missed laughing my ass off with the d and missed sharing the d with others. but now, i don't have that problem and the dvd is WAY better quality than that shitty vcr tape.

brrrr!

yeah, i'm glad i'm here in SF and not here! (you may have to register with startribune to read...grumble)

Byron Paulson, a Weather Service meteorologist in Chanhassen, said that with temperatures today in single digits above zero and winds of 10 to 15 miles per hour, windchills in the metro and outlying areas again will be 20 to 30 below zero. [of course, this all in fahrenheit]

I am feeling quite wussy though, i've actually been cold here in SF the last few days. but still, i'm not using a winter coat, just my hoody, a scarf and a hat.

well, i finally get called in for jury duty but it's in hennepin county, mn. guess i won't be sitting in on that jury! i did send back the summons with my new address and name. damn, i really do one day want to sit on a jury.

the Unconditional Loathing show in oakland was a hit! the guys were great, the crowd loved them! there were quite a bit of laughs and UL made $7 panhandling the crowd! HAHAHA! it's one thing when i hear their idea for a show and find it hilarious but it's a whole 'nother even more gratifying thing when they actually perform and the crowd thinks it's pretty damn funny as well. now they just have to get a third show in oakland to round out their Trilogy. great job guys!

at about 12.05am jan 1 2004, the people throwing the party burned a christmas tree in the middle of the street. pretty cool. we took off shortly after the tree burning and headed back to SF. more people to see!

as we were walking to BART in oakland, it started to rain. nothing big, just a little sprinkle. by the time we got off the BART on 16th and mission, it was raining harder. we found the bar our friends were at and made it in time for last call. then we all walked to Pat and Gretchen's. by now it was pouring. needless to say, we all got soaked. greg and i dried off a bit at P & G's and finally around 4.30am headed home. walking, of course. we got soaked again. but i couldn't help but laugh. damn, what a good night :)

nye

tonight we are heading to oakland. paul and greg are doing another show. it'll be interesting to spend nye almost totally surrounded by strangers. we have twelve beers and one bottle of champagne. oh and a mint tin full of weed. looks like a fun night to me.

i'm happy we both have tomorrow off and can spend another day lazing about watching movies together.

for what it's worth, Happy New Year to you.

in the news...

there was an earthquake in these parts this morning, at 11:16am. my mom called me around noon and asked about it. i said "what?" i didn't feel any rumbling or rolling and yes i was awake, just barely. estimated at 6.5, the thing did manage to kill two people who, unfortunately, were near an old unreinforced building, near the epicenter.

in other news...

there was a huge power outage in sf this weekend, about a third of the city was without power. but not in my neighborhood. i had no idea anything was wrong 'til sunday. doh. funny that it did effect a huge shopping/commerce area of downtown the saturday before christmas.
