Blame Canada
Officials on both sides of the Canadian-US border have been squabbling over which country bears responsibility for yesterday's catastrophic chain reaction in the power grid. Canada lobbed the first egg, with Prime Minister Chretien's office suggesting lightning had struck a Niagara Falls power plant and the country's defence minister pointing to a fire in Pennsylvania.
US officials denied the existence of even a small trash fire in either location. They also shot back with some allegations of their own, saying that Canadian-US transmission lines were the probable culprit and that the problem was most likely on the Canadian side.
As of this morning, however, all eyes were on the great state of Ohio.
