Still "Idealist-Healer" After All These Years
Since it's been more than a decade, I decided to take Myers-Briggs again to see if the results would be different. I've had my temperament sorted a few times since high school, with the same outcome every time.
However, a lot has happened in the last ten years. I've married, divorced, and remarried, led a nomadic life, then a more settled one, suffered a nervous breakdown, finished a dissertation, and stopped smoking. I've changed physically, so why not temperamentally? Also, it's possible that I have a more realistic self-assessment now than before, and can thus give more accurate answers.
Despite these considerations, my personality type turned out to be the same as always. To be more specific:
|
INFP - "Questor". High capacity for caring. Calm and pleasant face to the world. High sense of honor derived from internal values. 1% of the total population. | Take Free Myers-Briggs Personality Test
I'm not unhappy with this type and might even choose it, were it possible to decide. That doesn't mean, though, that I don't experience personality envy. ENFJs are better organized and more fun to be around. ENFPs have stronger convictions. INTPs are better at political analysis. Those are the three that I most often contemplate as alternatives, suggesting that I'd like to be either more thinky or more social.
For INFPs, a career in business is more or less ruled out. As far as I know, there have been no INFP presidents, though there must have been hereditary monarchs; Henry VI of England (assassinated in 1471) comes to mind. INFPs have the annoying habit of comparing their real-life friends and SOs to their imaginary childhood playmates, and tend to view the real world as an intrusion on daydreaming. In addition, we worry a lot and are preoccupied with ethics. The compensation for all of this is an unusually strong capacity for reverie and a liking for solitude, both of which come in handy amid relationship trauma and financial catastrophe.
Mr. Rogers was an INFP. That's pretty cool.
