Retro Tourism

Chinese tourists flock to North Korea to find out what their own country was like during the Cultural Revolution. The isolated totalitarian state also offers casinos, illegal in China.

Meanwhile, a travel agency has started flying South Korean tour groups to Pyongyang -- an idea which must have seemed highly improbable even a few years ago.

Interesting article in the Herald Tribune about these trends and their relationship to the DPK's slowly emerging market economy. A simple story it ain't.
