Friday Five
1. Do you like to shop? Why or why not?
It can be frustrating. I'm an impulsive person, so typically I'll seize on various items that I want to purchase. But I also have a kind of built-in censor who soon shows up and begins an inquiry into the proposed purchases, voicing doubts and asking pertinent questions, such as "how often are you actually likely to listen to the choral works of Arnold Schoenberg?" By the time this investigative process is finished, my basis for purchasing almost all the originally desired items has been undermined. Sometimes I manage to buy one.
2. What was the last thing you purchased?
Vanilla ice cream and Cool Whip, on the way to my parents' yesterday for the T-giving family gathering.
3. Do you prefer shopping online or at an actual store? Why?
Actual store, by far. It's a more flirtatious shopping experience; online shopping is utilitarian.
4. Did you get an allowance as a child? How much was it?
Fifty cents -- big money back when my Dad was a kid.
5. What was the last thing you regret purchasing?
A toaster oven for my then-girlfriend (now wife), many years ago at Christmas time. I had the insane idea that she'd find it romantic. Visions of cozy mornings, conversations over buttered toast...Not only was it a dismal Christmas gift, but there was no room for it in the kitchen.
