Tremor
This area is not famous for seismic activity, but we apparently experienced a small quake yesterday, epicenter in Virginia. I have a fleeting recollection of sensing something while typing away at the computer and being momentarily puzzled, but not puzzled enough to really register it. I'd forgotten until hearing the news, and then "a-ha!"
My dad says he noticed something astir while out tree-trimming. I'm wondering whether either of us actually did notice, or whether we're inventing memories in retrospect.
It's interesting, anyway, how alert people are even to minute changes in the environment -- I mean, we may think we're tuning things out, but some part of the brain is always at work, monitoring.
Dad told me about the much more serious earthquake that struck Greece over the summer, on the last day of his and my mother's trip to Lefkada. The village where they were staying is quake-prone; most of the houses have suffered damage at one time or another, and some are in ruins.
Before the shaking, there was noise -- like a truck going by, but much louder. They instinctively stopped what they were doing and bolted for open space. Mind works fast.
