t.A.T.u.
Russia's lesbian pop phenomenon, Yulia and Lena
t.A.T.u. is short for Ta ljubit etu (She loves her).
t.A.T.u's stage and video performances are causing controversy in Europe as well as Russia--Lena and Yulia are lovers, and they're not afraid to express that in their music, or on stage. The video for their latest hit Ya Soshla S Uma (All The Things She Said), the story of the love affair between two women, was named Video of the Year by MTV in Russia.
And they're cute too!
Check out this poster.....

Thanks Kat for pointing me to their story!
In today's Salon, Sheerly Avni interviews
the founders of the Alternatives to Marriage Project, Marshall Miller and Dorian Solot. I found a couple of statements interesting --
One third of US employees work for employers that provide domestic partner benefits
--Can this be accurate??
In 90% of these employee plans, domestic partner benefits are available for heterosexual couples in addition to same sex couples.
Further on, Miller is discussing the liguistic challenges (What do you call the other person in your commited relationship--significant other, girlfriend, partner, lover....you know the drill). But then he makes this statement "...I think the word 'single' is even worse, though -- it comes with this stereotype of someone sitting home alone, watching reruns and eating cold pizza.
When you hear 'single' you certainly don't think of commited couples, or unmairried people who live alone but have rich, fulfilling lives full of friendships and relationships."
--Is that really what people think of me?? Gaak!! I much prefer the stereotype of the single party-girl who is having a fabulously fullfilling sex life and as much fun as she can cram into non-work hours! (although we all know that this isn't really true either!) But...reruns and cold pizza......how pathetic!! For the record Miller, I lead a very fulfilling life even though I live by myself!
Also, Miller.....you mention commitment ceremonies and some of the 'different' ones you've observed. If you want to know about committment ceremonies, just ask the lesbian and gay community. We've defined and explored these ceremonies and can share some interesting stories!
Also today I heard the sad news. Oolong,
the internet's most famous rabbit died three days ago. Oolong's claim to fame was an ability to balance objects such as waffles on his head, and of course an owner who posted one of the largest collections of photos of one subject that I've even seen. Over 893,000 visitors have looked at pictures of him and his cute antics! Pretty impressive. I am also the companion of a 'house bunny', but unfortunately mine will not even balance a piece of lettuce on his head....he just looks at me
like I'm a crazy human!
