What part of lesbian don't you understand? - or- Are you disappointed there isn't any explicit sex?

Douglas, writer of The Agora, has been talking about my site and saying some very positive things. However, not all of his readers agree. Here is one of the comments from ‘Steve’ posted today:

"I don't get it Douglas. I've read the site and find it average at best. She is a LESBIAN. She shows us a picture of a DILDO. She excepts a GAY 'Two Towers' parody. She shows us the new Russian LESBIAN pop group. She has a favorite LESBIAN publishing house. I see a pattern here. Makes me wonder if she is anything other than LESBIAN. I find folks that totally define themselves by their sexuality or by their job or by their music or by their wealth or by their hobby(Hi, I'm a stoner. I get high all the time. These are the drugs I like. This music would be much cooler if we were high. Blah, blah, blah.) to be way boring. Your weblog displays the far-ranging mind of a good hard-working man with wife and child. Interesting."

I can’t let this go by without making some comments!

Steve--I think you missed the whole point. I don't define myself entirely by my sexuality, otherwise why would I call my site “My so-called lesbian life?” Obviously, there is something there, but I don't wish to post a personal journal. In my opinion no one wants to read ‘crying in my beer’ postings, and I don't feel the need to defend this part of my life to you.

There is a need for lesbian blogs--by that I mean blogs with content of interest to women who identify as lesbian. There are several lesbians writing blogs, but most of these are (wonderful) literary sites or personal journals of their life journeys. Just as there is a need for political blogs, cooking blogs, sports blogs, music blogs, etc, there is a need for postings of issues, news items, stories, and fun things that concern lesbians. This is not a sex site, although I’m sure sex will be discussed here just as it is in every media. I realize that some will come to be titillated, but there isn't much I can do about that.....and the name of a site should have something to do with its content!

As far as a diversity of subject matter, I have been writing for only six days now. I think as time goes on you will see a variety of subjects interspersed with the lesbian issues. In the pay-the-bills part of my life I work in the education department of a university affiliated solar research center. I love science and I'm sure that you'll see some of that, as well as education and women's issues. As far as politics goes, I will probably stick to the LGBT issues--I don’t feel like enough of an authority of politics in general to add much to the great blogs that are out there now.

In the long run, it is my readers that will decide whether what I post is worth reading or not, and in what direction my blog will evolve.

Steve--Obviously this blog was not written for you.....and your disappointment....I wonder....could it be that you wanted this site to have a bit more explicit content? Wanted a little sex? Sorry to disappoint you.

Thank you Douglas for the wonderful comments about my site. And my advice to you is never let yourself get too settled....keep pushing at the edges of your life and experiences. Maybe it’s time to take your wife out Saturday night to your local gay/lesbian club and catch a drag show! It is true that no one knows how to party like the gay clubs!
