Gay couples try for marriage licenses
Friday, in 120 cities and towns across the US, gay couples went to their local governments and tried to obtain marriage licenses. Although they were denied, the national effort, organized by the Metropolitan Community Churches and timed to coincide with Valentine’s Day, was a demonstration of love by the couples
as well as our unfair marriage laws. Jim Birkitt, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Community Church of Los Angeles, said the fellowship performs some 6,000 same-sex marriages a year. "These marriages are recognized by God," Mr. Birkitt said, "but not by the government." (more...)

If you are planning a wedding, do your friends a favor and don’t plan it for Valentine’s Day. Last night, I was subjected to a co-worker’s bad choice of wedding date. The couple and the immediate family loved it, with coos of ‘so romantic’, and decorations of hearts, hearts, hearts!
But the congregation had other things they wanted to do. Dinners, dancing, beach strolls and bed fests had been cancelled or postponed in order to sit in wedding clothes and fake smiles listening to a sermon about Adam & Eve! I finally made a mad dash to my car when I was asked if I was going to be the ’next one’. I kid you not!
