Mr. Rogers, an angel of the devil?
Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas, known for their God Hates Fags website, is planning to stage a religious protest and warning of Mr. Rogers. Their flyer states the April 13-14 protest is scheduled to be held at “the demonic Pittsburgh institutions that produced this Sissy Pied Piper From Hell, to wit: Sixth Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Child Development, and PBS WQED TV Pittsburgh”
The flyer goes on to rant that “Rev. Rogers was an angel (messenger) of the Devil, a diabolical propaganda expert, seducing vulnerable kids to lives of sin, shame, disease, misery, early death, eternal perdition.” It also calls Mr Rogers, PBS and the National Education Association the “Axis of Evil” which incurred “God’s Wrath on America--9/11, shuttle,
nightclub fire--all died for Rogers’ sins”.
I can’t believe this! The last person I would expect any religious zealot to condemn, no matter how ignorant they are, is Mr. Rogers. Sure, Mr. Rogers wore zip-up sweaters and slippers, he played with puppets and had a friend named Mr. McFeely, but I'll take Mr. Roger's world of understanding and acceptance over the world of these misguided Baptists any day!

Alice Walker arrested for peace
During yesterday’s war protest in Washington, Alice Walker (author of The Color Purple) and Maxine Hong Kingston (author of The Woman Warrior) were among a group of 23 women arrested by police on the sidewalk in front of the White House. The protest, organized by Code Pink, was attended by several thousand demonstrators. The U.S. Park Police stated that the women had been arrested on the sidewalk in front of the White House for crossing police lines and demonstrating
in a closed area. Before her arrest, Alice Walker told CNN, "The president may pretend that he doesn't want to hear us, he doesn't see us, but believe me eventually he will see us and he will hear us.” (more...)
