It’s that time of year again!

I love marshmallow peeps--those little sugar chicks and bunnies that appear every Easter. I generally eat wholesome food and shy away from commercial crap, but there is something about these sugary, squishy confections that I can’t resist. I have loved them since I was a child.
I used to be a closet peep-eater. I found out early that it was not politically correct to like peeps; so I would hide my peep habit from my friends and family, and eat them when I was alone. But I’ve come out! I can now proclaim it proudly. I love marshmallow peeps, especially the purple and the white chicks! And since I have started being honest with everyone, an amazing thing has happened. Not only have my friends accepted my peep preference, they have started to show
their support by bringing me surprise gifts of peeps.
Just this week I confessed to Neva
my love of peeps. She sent me this link to Martha Stewart’s recipe
for homemade bunny and chick shaped marshmallow treats. Yes, you read that right. Ms. ‘I do everything from scratch including weaving my own cloth’ wants us to believe that she makes her 99 cent peeps from scratch! No matter how much I love peeps and love to cook (I can bake an awesome pie!),
I would never spend the amount of time necessary to make something that is so cheap and so readily available. And the fact is that the Just Born company makes awesome peeps. I don’t think I could turn out a row of peeps that were so identical, dusted with colored sugar just so and stuck together like siamese quintuplets. And that is half the fun!
Martha, you can keep your peep recipe. I don’t buy into your Martha Stewart fantasy. But that is a rant for another day.
