Virgo full moon and a Grand Cross

Full Moon - March 18th, 5:35 am EST

The continuing challenge for anyone working in astrology is to look at a chart objectively, and not read into it what you think it should say given the time and circumstances. This is especially hard today when it looks like a misguided war is inevitable; but here goes....

The Virgo moon focuses on health and purification issues. This is a good time to start a weight loss or de-tox program; and it is also a good time to volunteer your services in the area of healing. Because of the placement of Mercury, those who are currently dealing with a serious health issue need to deeply question the illness; read, research ask questions, talk to your doctors, and most importantly ask yourself what are the possible psychic causes of your illness.

The full moon today occurred with the sun at 28 degrees Pisces--the last degrees of the last sign of the zodiac. This symbolizes the completion of one cycle and the imminent beginning of another. This is a transitional time.

This full moon also makes a grand cross--a large ‘X’ of 90 degree angles--with Saturn and Pluto. (View a chart for today with the grand cross marked on it here.) This is one of the most intense aspects as it brings together very opposing values. Saturn square the Sun brings sobriety, responsibility and a sense of duty. Saturn square the moon demands responsibility, and keeping emotions under control. Pluto square the Sun adds power struggles, disruption, and a transition that can be stressful to the sense of self. And Pluto square the Moon adds emotional change and readjustment. Taken together it sounds like a transition/change that is forced, but must be accepted. It is very hard not to read something more into this given our present situation!

On a personal level, full moons are the time to celebrate all the hard work that you’ve done since the new moon. An old wive’s tale says that if you have worked hard at your new moon goal, then the time from the full moon until the next new moon will be easy and joyful. But those who haven’t learned their new moon lesson yet, will be forced to work harder on it for the next two weeks. Think back to the new moon on March 2nd. How are you doing on your goals?
