Skating on the surface..
I have been so busy lately that I am just barely skating on the surface of life. And it shows here on my blog (sigh!) If I throw in another good looking female, will you forgive me? I thought so...

Thanks Good Shit (again) for the photo!

All those in education will completely understand and sympathize with me being so stressed––this time of the year is busier than Christmas, and almost as insane! I have two more events left before the school year is officially over (we get out early in Florida; the last day of school in my county is May 12th), and I am looking forward to the summer shut-down. Although I don’t get the summer off (being in ‘education’ but not in the classroom), nevertheless my workload drops to a quarter of what it is during the school year. I am really looking forward to the time to catch up with my other stuff!

The unsung heroes...
I know that I haven’t mentioned it in awhile, so I want to say thanks to all the teachers out there. I see the fabulous job you are doing. I see the obstacles that you are up against, the system that hinders more than helps, the thanklessness of the pay (and negative societal standards). I see the political wranglings that make your job even more difficult to do well. I see the growing number of parents that think the school system is THE ONLY character building influence in children’s lives, and therefore feel absolved of blame if their children cannot listen without talking or interact without disrupting. And at times I really don’t know why you keep trying....but then I see ‘that look’ in a student’s eye, and I understand. You are my heros......Thank you!

I am glad it’s you and not me....
One of my really good friends, Sabrina, just successfully underwent M-F sex-change surgery. I can’t say that I understand the feelings that would push someone into major elective surgery, nor do I understand how someone can feel so estranged from the body they were born with, but my understanding is not important. Sabrina, I love you and support you and I defend your right to do whatever you want with your own body. Here’s to your happiness, sweetie! Hurry home to us!
Happy MD!!
Happy Mother’s Day to all! Personally, I was very fortunate to be born into a line of very strong women. My mother was the epitome of the modern female at a time when very few other mothers were; I am who I am because of her influence. And I hope that I have had that influence on my own daughter! I am personally so proud of my daughter, Alison, that I have to seriously guard against bragging whenever I talk about her. But throughout the years, I have always thought of Mother’s Day as also ‘Daughter’s Day’, because without the surprise of her conception/birth, I might never have taken the time out of my 'wild' years to become a mother and grow into a new stage of my life. So Alison, this is a shout out to you. I Love You....I think the world revolves around you....and I can’t imagine what my life would have been like without you. Happy Daughter’s Day!
