I’m baaaaccckkk!!

Cliff Palace at Mesa Verde Colorado had an estimated 120 rooms in four levels.
I’m back from my trip to Colorado and in a bit of a post-travel
cultural warp. I loved Mesa Verde, downtown Boulder, Navajo horsehair pottery,
driving in the mountains, and watching the kids play in the snow on top of Pike’s
Peak. However, I was so busy going and doing that I didn’t get a chance
to do any reading or surfing. Now I have so much catch-up reading to do! But,
I can’t let the evening go without at least pointing out a few stories
that I have come across....
Five quickies and a traveler’s perspective.....
According to the Congressional Budget Office, allowing same sex couples to marry
would save
the federal government nearly $1 billion per year, assuming that same-sex
marriages are legalized in all 50 states and recognized by the federal government.
Conway’s (Arkansas) gay pride parade route was ‘littered’
with a dump truck load of cow manure.
Although city workers were able to clean up the smelly mess before the parade
began, it serves as a reminder of how much hatred there still is in our society.
Good news for those of us who hate those grocery and drugstore ‘saving’
cards that track our purchases and personal information. A Seattle woman is
suing her
grocery store for not notifying her that she had purchased meat that was
possibly tainted with Mad Cow disease. I will wager that if stores are held
responsible for their knowledge of who purchased what product, they will quickly
abandon their databases!
Think you can tell the difference between a sex toy and dog toy? Check
it out. I got 12 out of 14 on the warm up round, but only 8 out of 14 on
the ‘difficult’ round. I wonder how a dog would score on this?
While you’re in the quiz mode, check out this 8th
grade exam from 1895. Even given the cultural difference that 100+ years
makes, this is a toughie! I also find it surprising that there wasn’t
any science on the quiz.
I guess I’m still in a traveling state of mind. I’m not sure of
the original source of this photo–it was sent to me by The Pilot’s
dad, but it sure does make exploration of Antarctica look good!
