Passcode please?
Hi everyone! It’s me again (Scotti).
Well the breakup is going ok. Better than I thought.
But during the process which one must take towards a breakup with a result
in two separate lives I encountered an interesting observation.
We have a joint checking account for household expenses, so of course I am
closing it. The guy at the bank advises me to change all my passwords and pins
to all of my accounts “just to be safe.” Now, I have no belief whatsoever
that she would have ill intentions. But the guy pointed to me that if she wrote
anything down somewhere or had a statement anywhere, then others have access
to it. Ok good point.
I was trying to figure out what accounts exactly to change passwords and pins
to when it became frightfully clear how many things in my life require a pin
or password. I decided to make a list.
| 3 checking accounts |
a few credit cards |
home security system |
| 3 email accounts |
my student records (UCF) |
online tax records |
| e-mail at work |
my online classes |
my stock investments |
| my computer at work |
my cell phone |
2 check cards |
| The door to the locker room at work |
|
|
Plus I pay my bills online so I have online passwords for:
Electric bill
Water
Cable
Mortgage
Cell phone
House phone
Plus some of my accounts have pins AND passwords for double security. No pin
or password is the same for any of them. But even more shocking to me was that
ALL of them are in my head. Not a single one is written down anywhere. Amazing.
I think maybe I’ll write them all down just in case I die or lapse into
a coma, so my family can have some sort of clue as to how to handle my affairs.
I’ll write them down and put them away in the security of my gun safe…
crap! That one has a pass code too! Is it just me? Does everything in life require
a code?
