Why don’t we do it in the road?
Traveling home via US1 this evening, I spotted something ahead of me in the center of the lane. As I got closer, I realized it was a naked Barbie....not anything I expected to see! It seemed a rough end for even such a phoney as Barbie.

I missed it!
I didn’t find out that today was Towel Day (in tribute to Douglas Adams) until I returned home this evening (sigh!). It would have been so fun to arrive to work this morning sporting a towel; or maybe no one would have noticed–everyone there is a bit quirky.

I’m not ready.....
Hurricane season starts here in one week, and my repairs aren’t finished yet from last year’s storms. I’m hoping that the exterior of my house is finished before the rainy season begins in June (not to mention the possibility of another hurricane this year!). I still have one exterior wall that needs stucco and there’s a little more that needs to be finished on my roof. It seems that the current weather condition is very conducive to hurricane formation, and the ocean is warmer this year than usual....many think that means more (and stronger) storms.

The Florida legislature approved a tax free week for hurricane supplies. The list of items that will be tax free includes batteries, coolers, flashlights, tarps and even a generator....all great things to have after a storm hits you. However, there isn’t anything on the list that can help you protect (and save) your home. Glaringly absent are things like hurricane shutters and plywood. I’m sure it is because the state didn’t want to lose their 6% revenue on these things.....however, doesn’t the aftermath of a storm on unprotected houses cost them more in the long run? It seems really short sighted to me.
