Tonight we have another guest blogger, a very good friend of mine, Char, who has something she wants to get off her chest.....please make her feel welcome by leaving many comments!

Defending The “L” – Negative, Negative, Negativity
I am new to blogging and writing. Hopefully my friend Penny will catch any misspellings! Opps I see I’ve started already! When Penny started posting her blog she told many of her friends about it (and a few strangers I might add). I have followed her blog ever since the first day. I have also followed some of the other blogs linked from her site. Since the arrival of The L Word last year I have read many posts concerning the show. Most are about the negative aspects of the show and some of the characters. So I want to write about what I find to be positive about The L Word and one particular character.

We must remember we FINALLY do have a show which for the most part IS about Lesbians. This alone is positive--a show largely devoted to a minority population in our society. Not to mention the HOT women and sex scenes in pools!! By the way did I mention I have a pool? Remember the first year of QAF? I for one didn’t like the show and didn’t watch it regularly. Why you ask? For the same reason I don’t like male strippers. Too much DICK!!! They showed it over and over!! Dancing in those little G strings with “IT” flopping all around! Not to mention the “Back Room” at Babylon. Opps, I think I have strayed from my topic. This writing thing is much harder than I thought. My point is that now I love QAF because it has grown in its five seasons to a show which portrays many important issues in the gay community. So stay tuned and see The "L" grow also.

Jenny. I saw you cringe at the mention of her name. I think the character Jenny already shows how the show and one character have grown since the first season. Last year she was a totally self-centered b-i-t-c-h. This season she has stopped sleeping with men. Yeah!!! She has shown she is not as self-centered as we think. How you ask? She was honest with Diane for one. Even though she hurt Diane it could have been worse if she continued to lead her on, which is something I see in the real world every day. She also decided to step aside for the sake of true love between Shane and Carmen--NOT something you see every day in the real world–to give up someone you are with so they can move on to something even greater. In my eyes you could not have a more admirable quality. How many of you readers could have watched “The Tape”, go on a cruise without saying a word, and then step out of the picture without even one curse word? Even I would have to curse a few times to make myself feel better! All the while making Mark stay and face up to his indiscretions, forcing him to see firsthand the results that stem from his actions, instead of giving him the easy cop out.

To one comment I read recently about Jenny’s haircut. Not all femmes have long hair, not all lesbians or butches have short hair. We all do things out of character wanting to be accepted. But most importantly I think the haircut was her second cry for help. She was obviously abused and raped in her childhood. Thus the weird visions and strange things she chooses to write about. Her first cry for help!!

This is just some of what I get from watching the show. I’m an Aquarian and one of the aspects of my sign is the belief in humanity and finding good where sometimes it is not that evident.
