Author Corner

I wanted to offer up a little review/accolade for an author I recently found.  I really can’t take all of the credit for finding him.  During my personal security interview with the FBI, the wonderful gentlemen that took my information brought this author to my attention.  He’d recommended him highly, so I tried him out.  His name is Harlan Coben.

Mr. Coben has ten books published.  His first seven are his “Myron Bolitar series” starting with Dealbreaker.  Being the anal person that I am, I had to start his books from the beginning so I started with this one.  And promptly fell in love with this author!

The Myron Bolitar series centers around former basketball player, boy-next-door sports agent Myron Bolitar.  He’s a smart alec with a penchant for wanting to help people.  He also seems to be as upset with the author for giving him the name Myron as any self-respecting character would be.  His characters don’t stop there.  We also have uber rich kid with psychotic tendency Win.  We also have Esperanza Diaz former FLOW women’s wrestling icon turned secretary/law student.

The mixture of these characters create a rich canvas on which Coben then creates interesting mysteries.  He unfolds the mysteries at a perfect pace dropping in just enough information to keep the reader going without “dumping” clues here and there.

The piece that pulls these books to new levels of mysteries is the incredible wit.  I read A LOT and it is extremely rare that an author has me laughing out loud repeatedly from his humor.  Coben’s books have had me so hysterical in points that my husband has looked at me as if I’d finally plunged over the edge of sanity.

I invite you to check his books out.  There is a list of his books on his website along with some other interesting information about the author.  I will admit he wasn’t what I’d have expected, but then I’m probably not what people would expect either.  The only piece of bad news I saw…no appearances in the south.  I guess my stack won’t be signed soon.
