An Environment of Surfaces…Reflection 1.1
What you cannot say about yourself in the Environment of Surfaces: "I’m not really that sort of person." But of course you are. You are the sort of person who did this or that, there and then, to him or her. If you were not perfectly clear about what sort of person you were, how could you deny that you’re really that sort of person?
You are free to change. And if you do, all you can say is that you really were that sort of person and that now you are a different sort. But remember:

The Blog As Cruel Task Master
I’ve been randomly cruising through Salon blogs, simply typing in addresses to see what I’d find. What I found were a lot of folks who received the "It Works" message and never pressed on.
Single-entry blogs are common. I was specially taken by the one that wondered if you could "get rid of the guy with the pencil." I guess it turns out that all software is unfriendly to someone. In my own case I’ve been trying to figure out how to change the Radioland software so the "enter" key only dropped the cursor down one space instead of double-spacing. So far I am absolutely clueless.
Blogs, some of them wonderfully literate, simply die in mid stream. I’ve wanted to try e-mailing their owners to ask why they quit. But, jeez, just what they need…more junk mail. I’d feel bereft if a blogger I followed simply dropped off into a digital black hole without waving bye-bye.
What you learn when you start blogging is that it’s a lot harder, and a lot more time consuming, than you ever expected. I’m a big fan of The Raven. The posts and links are witty, and the site looks fine. But where does he get the time to do it?
