STOP THE FCC FROM MAKING MEDIA WORSE

The Following from Alternet.org:

Details of an FCC proposal released today show the Republican appointees on the commission plan to further oosen ownership regulations, paving the way for more intense consolidation of U.S. media. This new round of concentration represents a huge windfall to most large media corporations owning TV stations and newspapers, and increases the threat to citizens' access to diverse sources of information and a wide range of views essential to the health of our democracy. The FCC will be voting on June 2 n the face of an unprecedented critical public response. Add your voice!

Do so at: http://www.mediareform.net.

Control of the airways is rapidly slipping into the hands 'the few, the neo-con'  with the result that ads critical of the Bush Regime are being rejected out of hand. We are being denied freedom of the press by the people who own the ‘press.’ An AP wire story from Phoenix makes this clear. The AP wire story reads, in part:

The local branch of cable provider Cox Communications has refused to air a television commercial critical of President Bush's tax cut plan that re-enacts a blood plasma drive held to help pay a teacher's salary. The spot was turned down because Cox officials in Phoenix found the commercial "in poor taste," said Andrea Katsenes, company spokeswoman.

Yo, Gang...seems I had a couple of broken links. One was to the AP story, the other was to the commercial itself.
I'll work on it....Sorry

Back again. You can download and view the MoveOn.org-sponsored political spot by going to the MoveOn WebsiteI report, you decide for yourself if the ad is "in poor taste"

You Don’t Need to Be a Weatherman
To Know Which Way The Wind Blows

But just in case you need a little help check in to The Progressive magazine’s McCarthyism Watch.

Two recent articles, "Cop Makes Midnight Raid of Teacher's Classroom" and "High School Teachers Punished in New Mexico" are examples of how passionately involved in current political events we have become.

I am particularly interested in these two stories because they revolve around teachers using the war on Iraq as an occasion for class projects…arguments pro and con, art work projects and so forth. In such cases the projects are justified and the posting of student work seems perfectly appropriate.

Entering a classroom at 1:30 AM, as a police officer did, and then sending student art work to Rush Limbaugh (Midnight Raid) deserves something more than "administrative handling."

But…and isn’t there always one of those…as an old lefty who neither supports the President nor any of his regime’s wicked counselors I think it is wrong for classroom teachers to post their personal political views in the classroom. That's what car bumpers are for.

Hey, I don’t want fundamentalist teachers or neo-con zealots posting their views in classrooms either.
